Five questions to ask before your next COA site visit

A COA site visit is not the time to discover gaps in your program's documentation, curriculum alignment, or outcome data. The programs that walk out of a site visit with confidence are the ones that asked hard questions of themselves long before the visitors arrived. Here are five we recommend every nurse anesthesia program ask at least a year out.

1. Does our self-study tell the same story as our data? Site visitors read your self-study, then they look at your dashboards, meeting minutes, and student files. Discrepancies between what you say and what your documents show are the fastest way to lose credibility. Reconcile them early.

2. Can every faculty member explain how our curriculum maps to the Standards? Curriculum mapping cannot live in a spreadsheet only the program director understands. If a visitor asks a didactic instructor where a competency is taught, assessed, and remediated, the answer should be consistent across your team.

3. Are our clinical case numbers and site capacity actually sufficient — or just sufficient on paper? Look at trends, not averages. Growth in cohort size, changes at clinical sites, and case-mix drift can quietly erode the experiences your students need.

4. What do our outcomes say, and what are we doing about them? First-time NBCRNA pass rates, attrition, and employment outcomes are the metrics that matter. A weak number is survivable; a weak number with no documented analysis and action plan is not.

5. Who owns each Standard? Accreditation readiness fails when it is everyone's job in general and no one's job in particular. Assign every Standard an owner, a file of evidence, and a review date.

If you cannot answer one of these questions today, that is not a crisis — it is a to-do list. A structured mock review with experienced outside eyes is the most efficient way to find gaps while there is still time to close them. That is exactly the work we do at SynesthesiaEDU. Schedule a free consultation and we will help you build a site-visit readiness plan tailored to your program.
